Dispelling the Myth that Negativity breeds Negativity

Negativity breeds negativity – I don’t remember where I first heard this. But I do remember thinking that it didn’t sit well with me.

This concept that talking about the negative things in your life would somehow magically attract more negativity.

I always imagine a crime mob movie scene with a big and scary but enlightened dude towering over a shorter dude and threatening him with:

“Yes, things are going bad in your life right now, but you better not talk about them to anyone, or else more bad things will happen to you.”

My thought was if a person didn’t talk about the negative things happening in their life, then how would they get any help?

Negative things don’t always happen to people because they are a bad person or did a bad thing.

Talking about the really bad things happening right now in your life should be normalized.

Why can’t we talk about the bad things without fearing that we’ll be either judged or ostracized?

Why can’t we talk about the bad things without fearing that it would attract more bad things?

Why can’t we talk about the bad things without feeling like we’re ‘airing our dirty laundry’ on social media?

Well, we can.

Think about the last time you had a really bad day, and when you got home, you had a really good cry about it. Remember how cathartic that cry felt at the end?

I bet you might’ve even realized a possible solution to your problems by the time you stopped crying.

Experience an emotional and energetic release

When we talk about the bad things happening in our lives, we are priming ourselves for an emotional and energetic release – We are not attracting more bad things.

We are releasing the pent-up emotional energy we are experiencing…which opens up space energetically for positive opportunities to come into our awareness.

The only time that talking about the negative things could attract more negativity is when we dwell on it too much. When we can no longer identify positive things in our life, we know we are in a negative loop.

And talking about it can help us break out of that loop.

It’s okay to talk about the bad stuff…it doesn’t mean you attract more of it.

It means you can start healing yourself from what happened and make room for new positive experiences to come into your life.

You don’t want that old energy blurring the vision of what could be next. Releasing it allows for a more clear path to the new and exciting opportunities ahead!

Take a deep breath, acknowledge yourself for your strength in overcoming adversity, and let go of what no longer serves you. You can do this!
